In January 1992 Colex was formed by the four who had previously been instrumental in the founding and operation of several of the UK's largest hose manufacturing companies. Following the rejection of a management buy-out of one such company and its sale and subsequent closure by the competition, the four turned this setback into what is now a major success story, when they formed a new company - COLEX INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. Initially financed by friends, family and business associates, (including the Baker family, principals in the American manufacturing company, NewAge Industries Inc.), who had faith in their abilities and by redundancy payments, the 4 founders, David Warren, Anthony Cole, Jim Taylor and Mick Garfoot, set about creating a new force in the industrial hose market. Nylon tube was first off the production line on 11th February 1992, when the first coil of NFM6/4 (a 6mm OD nylon tube) was coiled by Mick Garfoot, the Works Director, a mere 2 weeks after moving into their Market Harborough factory. A range of clear unreinforced PVC tubes followed in March and by the end of April braided (or reinforced) PVC was in stock in a complete range of sizes and colours. A period of consolidation then followed before Colex Suction & Discharge Hose was launched in October of the same year. Over the next four years the company grew rapidly and expanded its product ranges, always seeking to offer their customers something new. Specialist products were developed, in particular “skins / jackets”, used by companies conducting geophysical surveys of the sea bed. These “skins” contain the sophisticated electronics employed in undertaking such surveys. Today Colex is recognized as a world leader in the production of jackets/skins, which are also used in the manufacture of towed arrays for defence related products. |

As Colex grew, investment in the factory site was also required. As a result the total floor space by the end of 1996 amounted to 30,000 sq. ft, spread over 4 units. Additional units can be acquired as and when the need arises. Colex Today
As a result an increasingly loyal and well satisfied customer base has been built up and the company now operates in 35 countries around the world, manufactures 24 hours a day, employs over 40 people and has an annual turnover in excess of £5million per annum. |

The Colex Story - So Far
By the end of 1996 Colex had seen significant growth and high levels of inward investment into the production facility, which by this stage comprised 15 extruders, 10 production lines, 3 braiding lines and ancillary equipment such as material dryers and on-line printers. State of the art on-line laser and ultrasonic measuring equipment has also been installed enabling hose and tubing to be manufactured to very tight tolerances and high quality standards.
